Victor Gura, MD

Internist & Nephrologist

Dr. Gura has an international presence and is the inventor of the revolutionary Wearable Artificial Kidney (WAK™), a portable, ergonomically designed dialysis device that enables patients to experience the benefits of daily dialysis while performing their normal, day-to-day routines. The WAK™'s unique design helps eliminate fluid on a regular basis to reduce strain on the kidneys, lungs, and heart while also reducing blood pressure. Plus, the WAK™ reduces or eliminates the risk of malnutrition in patients with an end-stage renal disease, which in turn can help prevent infections and other dangerous side effects of ESRD. The device's contoured profile is designed for patient comfort, and the device weighs less than 10 pounds, making it extremely portable and easy to use. Powered by 9-volt batteries, the WAK™ uses a tiny fraction of the amount of fluid required by conventional dialysis, and because it's portable, it eliminates the need to travel to dialysis centers, which can be especially important for patients in more rural areas.

As a leading nephrologist, Dr. Gura is on staff at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, where he provides state-of-the-art care for patients from across the country and around the world. Dr. Gura and his office staff welcome new patients, and the practice accepts most types of major medical insurance including Medicare. The doctor and his staff speak English, Spanish, Hebrew, and Russian.
