High flow rates or extreme miniaturization - with its broad pump portfolio, Fraunhofer EMFT can meet a wide range of medical technology requirements. The silicon pump models with their small and flat design of minimum 5 x 5 x 0.6 mm3 but nevertheless high backpressure and absorbing capacity allow for new products in the area of diabetes, tumor, hormone or pain therapy systems as well as implants. On the other hand, the larger yet equally inexpensive stainless steel micropumps are mainly used in the field of infusion and in vacuum therapy for the treatment of chronic wounds. There are already interested partners for an industrialization of stainless steel micropumps, such as Rausch & Pausch GmbH, a world-leading developer of hydraulic and pneumatic valve systems. The piezoelectrically driven micropumps are self-priming, blow-tolerant and sterilizable.
